Hi, I’m Kami—also known as K.R. Lilac, author of the Root Karbunkulus series, and the creator of Read It Forward.

A few years ago, I moved to Victoria as a single parent, knowing no one and rebuilding my life from scratch. Like many families, books were our lifeline—comfort, escape, and connection all bound in one.

​

But as I began visiting schools as an author, I saw firsthand how many school libraries were being severely underfunded—or dismantled entirely. The very spaces meant to spark imagination and a love of reading were being hollowed out, shelf by shelf.

So I decided to do something about it.

​

Read It Forward is my way of combining everything I care about—storytelling, education, equity, and community—and offering a simple, lasting way for others to get involved. I’m thrilled to contribute to this cause not just as a mother, but as a writer whose mission has always been to get books into the hands of kids who need them.

This isn’t a campaign run by a big organization. It’s just me, reaching out one book at a time—with the help of thoughtful people and businesses who believe in what this can be.
